Scottish EDM superstar Calvin Harris, and Barbadian singer and songwriter Rihanna, have surprised fans once again. We shouldn’t really be THAT surprised though, as we should have taken a hint last weekend when Rihanna showed up as a surprise guest during Calvin’s Coachella Weekend 2 set. Instead we’ve been busy following the rumors of a potential Taylor Swift and Calvin masterpiece, that we missed the chance to speculate about RiRi’s special appearance. I mean, it is Coachella, so we probably wouldn’t have thought much of it, but still.
What we can speculate, or really confirm, is that Calvin + Rihanna is always a hot collaboration. If you recall, back in 2011, their track “We Found Love” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it held its reign for 10 weeks, becoming Rihanna’s longest streak at the top of the Hot 100. Also in 2011, was their collaboration “Where Have You Been” which reached No. 5 on the same chart.
Fast forward 2 years and Calvin and Rihanna are at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where “We Found Love” was nominated for and won, best short form music video and “Where Have You Been” was nominated for best pop solo performance. Fast forward a few more years to present day, and Calvin and Rihanna are back at it once again. While rumors of a Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris collaboration have circulated the internet since Coachella Weekend 1, after Taylor uploaded an Instagram photo of her sporting a track jacket with the lightning bolt cover art that Calvin would later display during his Coachella set, it’s with sad news that we announce that the rumors were, well, just rumors.
